Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy
Lower back pain during pregnancy is often experienced by women in the latter part of their pregnancy. This is generally after the sixth month. They experience lower back pain since the weight of the foetus increases which causes the mother to change her posture. This chance of posture often results in lower back pain. However, depending on the physical condition of the mother, lower back pain may develop even in the early stages of pregnancy. It is a known fact that around fifty to seventy per cent of women experience this pain.
One of the other causes of lower back pain in pregnant women, apart from a change in posture, is the change of hormones. This happens to prepare the mother for the birth of her child. However, these hormones cause the joints and ligaments to loosen in order to make space for the growing child. This loosening of the various joints, tendons and ligaments is another cause of lower back pain.
Dr. Sadie Rausenberger from Spinal And Sports Care Clinic explains why pregnant women develop low back pain and shows some effective treatments for pain relief.
There are two types of lower back pain felt by pregnant women. The first is lumbar back pain which is common lower back pain. The other is posterior pelvic pain which is felt in the lower frontal region and even the upper thighs. This pain generally increases due to awkward positions and postures.
